Bishop Ayo Ladigbolu, 84, has said his being devout Christian can not separate him from his culture and tradition.

The Archbishop explained that there shouldn’t be much worries about his age and Christian background, he said the throne is the turn of his family, and that he is entitled to the throne by rights.
The retired cleric pointed out further that he is quite aware of all that transpires in the palace , so he’ll do accordingly.
According to him, he is honoring the call of the Oyo people that said he must submit his name for the throne, irrespective of the age and Christian background.
“Especially those who are knowledgeable about my devotion to, and undying commitments to the greater progress and prosperity of Oyo Town, and my undeniable records of current contributions to uplifting the Yoruba culture as well as the honour, glory and splendour of the Alaafin both here at home and in the global community.” He said while explaining his reasons for the throne
Ancestrals learnt that, On June 10, the Agunloye ruling house submitted the names of 48 princes to the Baba Iyaji of Oyo land.
The Baba Iyaji, according to the Alaafin Chieftaincy Declaration, will forward the names to the Oyo Mesi, the kingmakers.
Archbishop Ladigbolu’s name is among those sent to the kingmakers. At 84, his inclusion drew criticisms from both within the ruling house and the community.

However, the Chairman of Agunloye Ruling House, Prince Yusuf Tella, has described as untrue the claim by a retired archbishop of Methodist Church Nigeria, Ayo Ladigbolu, that he was being urged by people to contest the race to become the next Alaafin of Oyo.
He said so many have applied and this is in the public domain. There are so many qualified princes who have signified interest. So, who is now begging him? That claim is not true.’’-Prince Yusuf Tella said
The Archbishop, at a press conference, said : “ I have always been in the service of this community and I have also extended it beyond Oyo and to other parts of the country. I believe I have been created to serve.
He said he will continue to serve In whatever manner, either he becomes the new Alaafin or not , “ it is a service to humanity “ – The Archbishop concluded.
